Musings...
"Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting!"
Musings by Alan Cheah
Having been involved in social and community service since 1973, this platform is being used to share one's thoughts and aspirations on the subject of "Social & Community Service" to help the needy in our Community irrespective of race, colour, creed, social and political standing.
Sharing the personal satisfaction of an individual knowing that one has tried to make a difference for our fellow man...seeing the grateful and happy faces of those who we have tried to help in one small way or another!
"The miracle is not that we do this work BUT that we are happy to do it"... Mother Theresa

Lionism...

It is said that a "picture paints a thousand words", then imagine what the joy and happiness on the faces of the old can do! Every year, we strive to bring joy and happiness to the old and young less fortunate in our community especially during festive occasions when they feel left out of the festivities. Be it Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas or Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Lions never fail to bring joy and happiness to the orphans and older generation in the various homes of our community. At the end of the event, we gain much satisfaction when we see the glitter of happiness and joy in their eyes and expressions of thanks and gratitude on their faces.
Lionism has provided me the forum and platform to be of service to my community and has also provide me the opportunity to improve my skills in leadership and training.
Having served the movement in various capacities as Club Secretary, Club Director, Club Tail Twister, Club Vice-President, Club President besides serving the district as Zone Chairperson, District Chairperson and District Trainer, all these have honed my skills to a much higher level and made me a much better person. ROAR!

My thoughts...
Whilst still in 6th Form in 1973, I was given the opportunity to involve myself in community service. That was the beginning of my addiction to serve the community.
Now nearly four decades past, the passion to serve has not diminished a single bit. It actual fact, the light has never burned brighter.
Basically I was involved in sporting activities as a player, official and administrator from 1970 to 2010. My foray into community service began when I volunteered to be a Honorary Warden at the then Penang Youth Park in 1972. It was the beginning of a roller coaster ride that I will never forget and perhaps never get off from. Having been involved in welfare organisations, health organisations and numerous non-governmental organisations, my efforts to return to society what it has given me and my beloved family took a turn for the better when I was inducted as a member of Lions Club International via my membership with the Lions Club of Penang Light. Till this day, I remain a steadfast and committed lion, forever believing in the Lions motto of "WE SERVE".
In 2011, through the encouragement of a close friend and fellow Lion, I joined another non-governmental organisation which had "Service to Mankind" as its motto. This NGO is the St. John Ambulance of Malaysia, State of Penang. This is yet another step forward in my quest to serve my community and my fellow man.
